Yes you read that title correctly. Fresh off a long Hiatus after FROM HELL (dope ass movie, net flicks that), the talented duo is back and with Mr. Denzel Washington no less, that’s how you come back to the game. Thier next film is titled BOOK OF ELI and Joblo has the scoopage:
The film will follow Washington as a singular hero, forced to fight the forces of evil in the not-too-distant-future in order to grant society its chance at redemption.
Now for those of you that think it sounds a bit I Am Legendish, well it does, but with The Hughes Brothers and Denzel Washington involved, you should know that the **** will be worth checking out.
Just in time for the fall season, Nike has a new Dunk Pack available with some dark tones for your winter wardrobe. Each one of these shoes features a melton wool upper with premium leather overlays. In other words, real fly ****. They are taking pre orders over at Hanon shop and are currently hitting for 94 pounds or 167 US bux. If you got your money right and are tryna get right, cop some.
I shouldn’t really have to remind you, but Johnson & Jonson is performing live tomorrow night in downtown Los Angeles at Boombox! You should be there, its the album release so that means…..rare gems from the album! Don’t sleep, get there.
Musical Swedish duo The Knife have become growing addiction for me lately. If you aren’t really in the know about these cats then you should definitely check this out. This is a video for their single called Heartbeats, directed by Johannes Nyholm. This is probably one of my favorite videos right now just due to its randomness.
A good friend of mine sent me this crazy ass video. It’s the story of a lion cub that was raised by a couple in the late 60’s which was then released back into the wild. After returning the cub they decided to pay a visit to their old pal Christian a year later and….just check the **** out.
Damn, 1500 or Nothin is killin it these days. Timberland linked up with accomplished R&B writer James Fauntleroy of 1500 to bring us Back Together which I assume is produced by Timbo with James on the hook. This definitely came out of nowhere for me. In any case check it out cause it’s a pretty dope record and GOOD **** JAMES!
New Kingdom is ******’ ridiculous. They’ve been destroying LA stages all year, and consequently have been granted their own night headlining The Knitting Factory. Instead of just doing a regular show, they’ve decided to throw a huge interactive party with live art, grafitti, photobooths, board games, drink specials, and live videography courtesy of the homey Gregthedude, in addition to performances by Godbody, In-Q, the homeys Paul Dateh and Inka One, and New Kingdom themselves. I’m hosting the whole night, and Matter is spinning the after party. Doors open at 8pm and its $10. See you there, right?
That fool TiRon stays dropping new ****. Here he revisits his Madlib produced joint from last summer’s Handshakes & Pounds mixtape, adding a new verse. It’s fire. Look for another new joint from TiRon on Monday as well, featuring Ayomari and produced by the homey Cook Classics. Yessir.
The homeys Shake and Meka over at 2DopeBoyz.comput together this fresh new mixtape featuring some of the rising talent we have out here on the west coast. It’s hosted by Thurzday and Y-O from U-N-I and features new joints from Blu, Pacific Division, Crooked I, Fashawn, TiRon, yours truly and way more. I’m featured on two songs - my solo joint “Still Risin,” produced by Kno from Cunninlynguists, and “Quitter” with TiRon and Ayomari, which you may have heard before. You can download the tape by clicking either of the covers above. I’ll probably make a separate post for “Still Risin” in a couple of days once the tape gets out there a bit more. CHEAAAH!!!
Hyphen’s been killin me on this blog **** lately…I’m clearly five days late posting this. Anyways, he recently interviewed one of my favorite new artists, Janelle Monae, up in Seattle. They talked about her background and inspirations growing up, her introduction to the industry, the storyline behind her ridiculous album Metropolis, and a lot more. Check out the video below and the full interview link under that.
New free EP from the homey El Prez, presented by the good folks at Eighties Baby. Prez describes the project as “loosely flippin a concept about the effect mass media and ‘the idiot box’ has on our daily lives; from politics, to attitude and mentality.” Tracklist is below, and you can click the cover above to download. Look for Young Tunj on a Prez joint soon, by the way.

Here’s Ash Roth and Devin the Dude in the stew working with Sean C & LV (the dudes who produced most of American Gangster). One can only imagine how much herb was consumed between these two in that session. Asher’s performing tonight at a frat at USC. If that’s not appropriate, I don’t know what is. I’ll be catching him live for the first time on Sunday as well. Dude is one of the most polarizing MCs in recent memory…people either love him or hate him. What do you think?
And speaking of Devin, check out some of the ill artwork for his new album Landing Gear.
The Foreign Exchange’s second LP Leave It All Behind is probably my most anticipated album right now. It’s dropping on October 7th digitally and should be in physical stores the following week. Nicolay and Phonte just released the tracklisting, which you can find below, along with the third edition of their viral video series. The album cover is above as well. Can’t wait for this.
